Tell Us Your Fundraising Story: Share the Fun and Creativity

We need your help documenting the creative things so many of you have done, and the fun so many of you have had, to raise money for Living Compassion and the Zen Monastery Peace Center. People often write to us asking for fundraising ideas, and we send them to the “funraisers” page on the website, but that is by no means a comprehensive list. If you have done something to raise money for either organization, please send us a description of your project; how much you raised, if you wish; and a photo, if you have one. We will add them to the list on the funraisers web page

We have learned from writing blogs in Zambia that telling our story and including pictures is the best way to share the joy of our work. So when you plan a funraiser, we’d love to receive photos and write-ups. We think behind-the-scenes stories and pictures of how we all find ways to support the Zen Monastery Peace Center and Living Compassion will be inspiring to others.

We would like to honor all you have done, while inspiring others to jump in as well! As luck would have it, just as we were ready to send this request, we received a great email telling the story of a recent yard sale. We were touched and inspired and think you will be as well. We have included it below.

Many thanks!

In lovingkindness

This year we made a sign. Here are two of our hardy helpers putting it in place over our front door. It’s visible from across the street.

Here’s the sign with gorgeous spring flowers, too! The weather was perfect. We had so many donations that we gave huge amounts of gently-used clothing after the sale to a men’s psychiatric facility, a women’s shelter, and Disabled American Vets. How wonderful is that?!

A set-up helper is making a clothes rack of bamboo (from our backyard).

Here’s a part of the action. All the stuff extends another 25 feet on each side of this picture. We started at 6:30 a.m. with set-up and cleaned up about 3 p.m. We were upstairs counting the money by 4:30 p.m., thanks to the combined efforts of a core group of about 25 extraordinary hands-on helpers!

As promised, we stopped the sale for this photo op. Here are some of the hard working, fun loving FUNRAISERS. We sold $1,773 and received checks from far and wide for a TOTAL of over $4,000! No wonder we’re smiling, knowing that the folks in Kantolomba are too!

Here’s my favorite story of the day: A neighbor came to shop, and we caught her ear and told her the story of Living Compassion/African Vulnerable Children Project and suggested she go to the website to see the miracles that come from FunRaising. She came back a while later and said she’d visited the website and was impressed with the work we were doing. She asked if she could make a donation and handed us a check for $300.00! It doesn’t get any better than this! Keep up the good work on the website!
