Partnering with a child is symbolically holding that child in your heart as you fundraise. For so many of us it is easier to realize the impact our efforts have when we can relate to something/someone specific or tangible.
The program began with a group of people each of whom wanted to raise $1,000 and wished to “carry” a child with them as they did so. It was so moving for those people that we decided to offer the opportunity to everyone. There is no obligation to raise a certain amount of money. Some people find it helpful to know that it costs about $250 to feed and educate a child in Kantolomba for one year. It is up you to decide the fundraising goal that is right for you.
Every child pictured on the partnering page is among the fortunate children eating each day and going to school. The money you raise directly benefits the child you choose through the food and education he/she receives, as well as in a much larger, systemic way in that the funds are used to support the entire community. The goal is to create a sustainable project where the people of Kantolomba can afford to feed their own children and pay for their own children’s education. And, it’s working! Read the blog for more information about how the project is currently going.
If you would like to partner with a child, click on the button below the picture of that child. This will take you to a brief form to fill out asking for your name and the child’s name. When we receive the form, we will send you a picture of the child on a one-page document with facts about Zambia, Kantolomba, and Living Compassion's work. If you would like, print the page—maybe make several copies—and show it to those you ask to contribute.
A summary of the steps to partner with a child:
- Choose a child from the website, click on the Partner button, and fill out the form.
- Wait to receive the flyer containing a photo of your partner and information about the projects. This can aid you in your fundraising.
- Set a fundraising goal for yourself. You are welcome to email and let us know what you are committing to: africa@livingcompassion.org. Plus, it’s fun for us to hear about all of you out there joining the efforts!
- Come up with all kinds of fun and interesting ways to raise funds, or just donate yourself. It’s up to you. Visit our “funraiser” webpage for some ideas other people have had. And email us if you have a new idea you don’t see mentioned!
- Collect the funds and send them to Living Compassion, P.O. Box 1756, Murphys, CA 95247 or make a donation online.
Optional, extra credit: Join us on October 4 for the 7th Annual Golden Gate Bridge Walk!
