Practice Everywhere

“What You Practice Is What You Have,”
a 7-Day Retreat with Cheri and a “workshop within a retreat” led by senior facilitators

When: Monday, May 3, 2010 - Sunday, May 9, 2010
Where: Green Cove Center in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina near Tuxedo

Retreat Description: “There Never Was Anything Wrong With You: Turning the Tables on Self-Hate” (the title of the latest book Cheri is writing) is based on the fact that we are always practicing something. If we practice regretting the past and worrying about the future, that is our experience of life. If we practice the peace, joy, and well-being of the present moment, then that is the life we have. "We are shaped by our thoughts. We become what we think."   – The Buddha

This retreat, our third at Green Cove, will include:

  • working meditation
  • group discussions
  • guidance with Cheri
  • gentle yoga
  • a “Workshop within a Retreat” (see below)
  • delicious vegetarian food prepared by a Monastery cook flown east for the occasion
  • leisure time for walks, hikes on the many trails, and rest

This year a “workshop within a retreat” is being offered for those who can’t attend the full seven-day retreat. The workshop will begin with the evening meal on Friday, May 7. Saturday will be an all-day workshop led by the senior facilitators. On Sunday morning, we will have a group discussion and brunch. Both the workshop and retreat end at 11:00 a.m.

How To Sign Up for a Retreat

If you would like to attend a retreat, the first step is to submit a Personal Information Form. It is very important that you communicate any special needs and dietary or medical considerations that need to be taken into account to safely accommodate you for a residential retreat.

If there is space in the retreat when your Personal Information Form is received, you will receive email instructions for paying the registration pledge. Payment of the registration pledge indicates your commitment to attend and reserves your space in the retreat.

Registration pledges will not be refunded if you cancel less than three weeks before the workshop, fail to attend, or leave early.

Once your registration pledge is received, you will be sent an email confirmation. The confirmation will have details about what to bring, what not to bring, what time to arrive, what time the retreat ends, and other details. Please note that telephones and computers are not used during retreats.

If you have questions regarding the registration procedure, please contact the Monastery Peace Center office:
