What will actually happen at the Peace Center?
- Inspiration: The Center will house beautiful displays that tell the stories of peace projects from around the world. They will be from every country, culture, tradition and time. We'll learn how people both famous and unknown have taken a stand for peace. There are so many stories to be told that the displays will be rotated throughout the year. All of the stories will be available in an online database, accessible in the Center and in your home.
- Reflection: The Center will be a place that evokes peace. The setting is awe-inspiring, with a large garden and windows overlooking the rooftops of Assisi and the valley below.
- Instruction: The Center will teach practices of peace from every faith and tradition. Examples of such practices are: meditation, centering prayer, Sufi dancing, mindful drumming, Japanese tea ceremony, African body prayer......
- Connection: Inspired, refreshed, with new practices to draw upon, visitors will return to their communities as seeds of peace, equipped to strengthen and deepen peace efforts everywhere
Why will the Center be in Assisi?
- We did not choose Assisi; Assisi chose us. It was in Assisi that Zen teacher Cheri Huber had the vision for the Peace Center and the possibilities it would create.
- Assisi is the home of St. Francis and St. Clare and for that reason it has been a place of peace pilgrimages for centuries. People already seek peace there; more will have reason to come once the Peace Center opens.
- Assisi is truly a magical place of peace. The very stones breathe peace.
- We want this to be an international Center; people already travel to Assisi from all countries of the world.
Will the Center have rooms for overnight stays?
The Center is not large enough to have guest rooms. Assisi has many options for lodging that are relatively inexpensive and located within walking distance of the proposed Center. |
