Peace Email
Peace Center

December 18, 2003

Dear Folks,

Thank you for your wonderful expressions of support for The Assisi Peace Center. Many of you stated something along the lines of "this feels like a vision destined to be a reality." Many have visited Assisi and echoed my enthusiasm for the peace, serenity, and gentleness that beautiful city embodies. In fact, the response has been so great, people's enthusiasm so exciting, that I've been talking about this venture as a "parting of the Red Sea" sort of affair.

To continue to receive information from us, please create a NEW email and send it to peace@livingcompassion.org   This is our email address for this project.   Please send all future correspondence about The Assisi Peace Center to this email address.

Our website (http://www.livingcompassion.org/peacecenter.html) is now set up with a link that will guide you to this email group. We are going to post each of our communications with the group on the website with the date of the message so those joining us in the future will be able to track our progress. If you have friends, neighbors, relatives, coworkers who might be interested in the project, please feel free to direct them to the site and encourage them to add their name to the email group so they too can be kept apprised. Getting the word out is something we all can do. Soon we will create a presentation for the web and we have hopes of creating compact disks and DVDs that you will be able to use to introduce others to the vision.

About the money:

Some of you wondered if we were interested in donations smaller than $1000.00.

Of course we are! We are very enthusiastic about donations of every size, and all donations are tax deductible. They can be sent to Living Compassion (put "Assisi" in the memo portion of checks, please) at PO Box 1756, Murphys, CA 95247. For donations of any size, keep in mind that we can accept Visa and MasterCard (especially good for those of you with airline credit cards who will be saving those miles for a trip to Assisi!). And remind everyone you talk to that all gifts are tax-deductible.

For those short of ready cash, here are some creative ways of coming up with a donation:

~~Karen is gathering together a group of people to raise one thousand or more together.

~~Susan is going to borrow the money for her donation and pay it back over time.

Non-financial contributions:

~~You could introduce us to individuals or groups who might be willing to contribute to this initial funding.

~~You could help us design the Assisi Peace Center t-shirt and bumper sticker

~~We are beginning to gather the names of people who would like to be listed as supporters of the Peace Center-this does not require a financial contribution-so let us know what name you would like us to place there and begin to gather the names of others who would like their names added to the list.

What the money will be used for:

This start-up money will be used for creating a logo, brochures, setting up the website, letterhead, phones, fundraising, (and paying the artists, experts, and consultants who are helping us make this happen), paying for securing the building (permits, inspections), and other expenses that will arise that we can't yet predict.   Any upfront money that is not needed for these expenses will be used for the building and/or its programs.

As you know, I will be in Assisi from January 15 to March 15 meeting with folks there and furthering the project. My expenses are being paid by a very generous birthday gift from a group of kind and loving souls. In the future, as we need to spend more time there, some of the start-up money will be needed to cover travel and living expenses. (Won't it be handy when we have a hotel to stay in while we work there?)

We are working on the vision/mission statement-let us know, via peace@livingcompassion.org, what is clear/unclear about the vision stated below, please. We are planning an on-line conversation and perhaps another two-hour radio show devoted to this project.

As soon as possible we will post some of the responses we've received from the original email-just because they're so fun to read. What an inspiring group of people to be working with! With this kind of energy behind a project, it is bound to succeed.

Thank you again. I'm very pleased we are doing this together.

In the next few weeks we would like someone from the "Assisi team" to call you to hear your thoughts about the project thus far. Please email us -- at peace@livingcompassion.org -- your name and phone number. We will be creating a database, so please include your mailing address along with the best number and time to reach you.

In loving kindness and peace,
Cheri, for the Assisi team
