Building Retreat 2006

The retreat officially ended on Saturday, June 17, and with the sawdust only now just
settling, we are using this time to catch up on the blog to fill you in with snapshots and
tid-bits about what we had all been up to.  It was such an action-packed month of
hammering, painting, digging, cooking, and practicing.  All of us were thrilled about the
wonderful opportunity it was to practice together – to work, sit, and simply be.  We can’t
wait for the next Building Retreat.

Donated windows

Sustainability has been the name of the game! Not only has all the wood used for the new offices come from torn down houses, all of our windows have been donated as well.

Laying out the first wall.

Taking measurements to mark where the studs will go.

Installing the studs.

Many hands
It takes many willing hands to raise a wall.

Putting the wall frame in just the right spot.

Checking to see if it’s plumb (for any lay folk out there, that’s building talk for “straight up-and-down”).

It’s not long before wall two is in place and we’re ready to nail them together.
