It is said that if you have Zen in your life, you have no fear, no doubt, no unnecessary craving, no extreme emotion. Neither illiberal attitudes nor egotistical actions, trouble you. You serve humanity, humbly, fulfilling your presence in this world with lovingkindness and observing your passing as a petal falling from a flower. Serene, you enjoy life in blissful tranquility.
To study Zen, the flowering of one’s nature is not an easy task in any age or civilization. Many teachers, true and false, have purported to assist others in this accomplishment. It is from innumerable and actual adventures in Zen that these stories have evolved.
-- Introduction to Zen Flesh, Zen Bones.
Stories have a remarkable power to teach us and Zen stories are no exception. As with all Zen training, the stories are constructed to transport us beyond conditioned mind in delightfully quirky ways. These beloved stories have much to show us about the spirit of Zen and how we can embody that spirit.
This Sunday, join Sangha in an exploration of your practice through the framework of these wonderful tales.
Registration closes at noon on Friday, September 25.
We appreciate all donations for the workshop.
