I had no idea what I was going to write for this month’s newsletter. Sitting down at the computer to “come up with something,” it occurred to me that there was a task that I needed to do in the kitchen. I proceeded to the kitchen and started attending to my task. I saw something else that needed attention and I attended to that, too. Then the next thing. And the next.
This may have been a procrastination tactic, but it quickly transformed into an experience of love and gratitude. I found myself overcome with appreciation for the Monastery kitchen and all that I have received from it. Each object I encountered seemed so beautiful, precious and dear to me. In a way that is difficult to articulate, I experienced the kitchen like never before, in the newness of the moment. It feels like a gift of practice and I am deeply grateful.
Gasshō,
