Most trees grow steadily over a period of years. Not the Chinese bamboo. It doesn't break through the ground for the first four years. Then, in the fifth year, an amazing thing happens. It begins to grow at an astonishing rate. However, if one stopped watering the bamboo anytime during those four years because there was no outward sign of growth, the tiny bamboo shoots would never see the light of day.

The story of the bamboo is the story of Living Compassion Africa.

Paying attention because one cares rather than because it produces an outcome is a true sign of Unconditional Love. This year we celebrate some of the tiny shoots that are testaments to the tremendous growth and transformation that has taken place over years of love and attention being lavished on this community.

It’s all practice
Supporting this marvelous project has always been an active aspect of this Practice. Each year, we practice going up against the voices of egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate—resistance, inadequacy, discomfort, feelings of something wrong/not enough—to unlock the gratitude, generosity, and love that want to support Goodness in any form.

This year, as part of the Bridge Walk, we will look deeply at how Practice has transformed us, and from that place of “Gratitude Wants to Give” find ways to support this community we love.
As always, you can participate by:
Making a donation to the Project
Enrolling your friends, family, colleagues in your fundraising efforts using our cool fundraising platform and resources
Practicing
New This Year
Many stewards of Practice have stepped forward to offer their practice as their contribution to the campaign. Register for a practice offering, all proceeds from which will support the work in Kantolomba. We hope everyone in Sangha will register for at least one practice event.

Yes…support calls!

We never have to go up against the voices alone. The Sangha is always here to support your practice. Don’t miss an opportunity to gather with Sangha for encouragement, fun tips, creative ideas for fundraisers, heartwarming tales of transcending suffering, and so much more. And if you missed a call, you can always listen to a recording!

It takes a community to actualize the dream of a slumbering bamboo seed.

Imiti Ikula Empanga…these little trees are becoming a forest.
