How we are and how we conduct our lives leads either towards suffering or away from suffering.
Everything in Life is a process, however, we rarely see it that way! What causes us to see life the way we see it, dominated by “whats” (content) and “whos” (identities) is also a process. It’s the process we call egocentric karmic conditioning/self-hate.
Most often, we’re not aware of the lens we’re using to view life and so we find ourselves bewildered by our inability to be with how life is. This is where Awareness Practice comes in.
Awareness Practice trains us to have a process perspective, which brings us a great deal of clarity because it allows us to see life in the way life works. By also using awareness to become aware of the process of suffering, we develop the capacity, should we choose, to stop tuning into and being controlled by the suffering process.
This year, we will examine the content of our lives through the process lens of Awareness to get a better sense of how ego operates. Bringing karmic patterns and survival mechanisms into the light of conscious compassionate awareness liberates us to have an authentic life experience.
HOW IT WORKS
- We will be using Cheri’s book How You Do Anything Is How You Do Everything as our framework. Through a series of exercises and provocative questions, we get to examine those aspects of our karma that we have filed away or are hidden in plain sight as a way of discerning what’s authentic and what’s ego. We encourage you not to start working through the book before the retreat begins!
- Daily, we will email to you, and also post on the retreat website, the page number and exercise that will be the practice focus for the day. There will be assignments all seven days of the week. Please note that we are not doing every exercise in the work book and not doing them sequentially. So, don’t be bamboozled into not checking your inbox!
- On weekdays, we will host a 30-minute radio show where you will have the opportunity to call in and process your insights from the previous days assignment and listen to what inspired, challenged, or transformed you and other Sangha.
- We’ve heard from the participants of the “Project Joy” retreat how life changing it was to have a daily focus and a forum to process what they were seeing. If you missed Project Joy, or were unable to fully participate in the retreat last year, here is your chance to reap the benefits of that extraordinary Sangha experience!
