The past few months have been filled with many space-clearing projects at the Monastery as we’ve been preparing for the retreat season. I’ve been involved with reorganizing our storage space, sorting through the hermitage bedding and supplies, and clearing out the kitchen pantry. Even pulling weeds in the upper garden felt like the same process of clearing space. It has all been a process of allowing the possibility of new growth to emerge.
I’ve taken on a similar project in my hermitage and have just begun the process with my work space as I move into our refurbished offices. These are areas where there has previously been some resistance, and I have been using the tools of practice to support me in moving forward. It has been energy-producing, joyful, freeing and fun.
What I have discovered through practice is this: On the other side of resistance is freedom, and when I create space in my life, joy fills that space.
