Conditioning has an answer for everything. If we're listening, that is. I get the feeling that I could land on the moon and conditioning would know how it should go, what I should say, even how I should feel. This is crazy!
And Recording and Listening (recordingandlistening.org) is sanity. I realized a long time ago that it didn't seem to matter which recording I was listening to, it brought me here. Just a hint of a story about how worthless or “full of myself” or wrong I am starts, and I'm there. Pick up the recorder, press play, and I'm here.
In recorder-space, there are no shoulds.
I do remember a point where I had to choose. I remember the conscious moment where I chose to “do it anyway.” I decided to pick up that recorder, regardless of what any voices in my head were saying, regardless of whether it “worked,” regardless of how I felt… I decided to choose the recorder's sanity over the crazy clamoring of conditioned conversation.
When I started to write this article (or when life started to write through my fingers?) I didn't expect it to become a big old ad for Recording and Listening. But, I don't mind, because I know it works.
Gassho,
