DESCRIPTION
If the mind falls asleep, awaken it. Then if it starts wandering, make it quiet. If you reach the state where there is neither sleep nor movement of mind, stay still in that, the natural state.
— Ramana Maharshi
Most people party on New Year’s Eve. We entertain stillness. Welcome the new year with Sangha at the New Year’s Eve sesshin.
A traditional sesshin is an extended period of meditation with a formal schedule of guided sitting and walking meditation. However, this New Year’s Eve sesshin is a departure from tradition and no formal schedule will be published. The suggested duration of the sesshin is three hours, between 9:00 p.m. and 12:05 a.m. in your time zone. You are welcome to sit as much as you want to during this time. At 11:45 p.m. in six time zones around the world, there will be a formal virtual guided sit to welcome the new year. You are invited to join the sit in your time zone and are welcome to witness the new year in all six time zones.
Details on how to participate in the formal sit will be emailed upon registration.
